What is your role at ECMS?
I am a Business Analyst at ECMS.
Your biggest challenge in your career and how have you overcome it?
The most common one has been overcoming my fear of not being good enough or not understanding enough.
There are often times when words or phrases or scenarios are mentioned in meetings that I don’t fully understand. In these situations, google is your best friend, 90% of the information I need can be found through a quick google search. I think this is one people so often forget.
Another thing I try to do is ask in the meeting what is meant by the word, phrase or scenario, if I don’t ask in the meeting, I make sure to follow up afterwards to clarify. If I do neither of these, I ask my peers and colleagues to help me understand.
The best piece of advice you have been given?
‘if you’re not winning you are learning’ - I try and live my life by this one. I think this saying is essential if you are wanting to consistently develop and grow. There is no failure, its all a learning opportunity, and if your are learning you are developing both personally and professionally.
‘Don’t chase the money, chase the dream’ - I love this advice as it’s so easy to look at jobs and pick the one with the highest salary, but it’s more important to pick your role based on what you love doing rather than the salary you get paid. It’s so easy to chase money, but money doesn’t necessarily make you happy.
What do you love about your job?
This is a tough one, there is so much I love about working at ECMS.
The team are brilliant, and I am so glad that I have been able to meet so many great minds. I love the opportunity and freedom we get to help shape the business and support its growth whilst also pushing ourselves to learn and develop. Within my own role I love that I get to interact with so many different people across the world, to solve problems and make sure the solutions created work for everyone.
Proudest moment of your career?
Winning theWeAreTheCity Rising star award earlier this year. After all the celebration it was nice to sit back and be proud of all the hard work, I was putting in. I was picked from a group of high achieving women by a set of judges who don’t know me, which makes me feel even more proud!
Where are you aiming to be in 5 years' time?
This is a good question, and honestly, I am not sure, I can say I will still be in the London insurance market, as it's where I feel most at home. But, who knows!
Why ECMS?
ECMS took a chance on me! When I joined, I had not done half of what I am doing now, and I have learned so much. Their belief in me, support and guidance has taken my career to the next level, and I want to be a part of their successful growing business to help create a brand and a legacy we can all be proud of.
You are shortlisted for some awards this year – tell us about these?
I have recently been shortlisted for two Women in Insurance Awards which I am so excited about, the awards ceremony is on the 11th October when we find out who the winners are and I can’t wait! The two categories are: Rising Star Awards and Young Insurance Woman of the Year.
