Technology Domain Consolidation and Redesign

Background

As part of an advisory engagement with a top 10 Lloyd’s Market Insurer, ECMS identified gaps within an existing programme of IT Change around existing domain architecture preventing infrastructure optimisation and the benefits of cloud services.

Challenge

The multiple forest domain architecture exposed the business to wider security risks as well as unnecessary time and costs to manage multiple users across AD domains. Additionally, the deployment and management of a single infrastructure and policy at a group level is unachievable without a single AD domain forest. Continuing to run the business on multiple domains would be a long term risk to delivering future technology programmes, creating resilience and cost issues that could be avoided. An additional challenge to delivering this project was the need to work remotely without impacting end users.

Solution

ECMS selected and deployed a specialist technical team to conduct the domain forest analysis, clean-up of objects in the domain forest, and the preparation of the workbook and tool for migration to a single domain forest. The ECMS team worked remotely with the business and relevant stakeholders in conjunction with other service integrators and consultancies as part of a wider global strategic IT delivery.

Outcome

ECMS successfully delivered the requirements for an AD consolidation while managing complex issues identified throughout the process. The consolidated domain will improve IT resilience from a single point of management for infrastructure. This provides better oversight of future deployments and means that inventory and object management sharing are better controlled.
